Can I switch from Push broadcast to Pull?

Yes, you can! Pull broadcasting will relieve your encoder of having to monitor the status of its connection to our media server. If any unexpected network event occurs which causes a temporary loss of connectivity, your encoder will not stop encoding if it's in Pull mode.

We set up live streaming in Push mode, because setting up for Pull mode can be somewhat technical.

If you'd like to switch to Pull method, you'll need to perform the following set up work on your end:

1. Have or acquire a dedicated IP address, or get set up with a hostname from a dynamic dns service, such as this one.

2. Choose a port on which to encode, (8080 is commonly used), and configure your internet router to forward the port to the internal IP address of the system which will be performing your encoding. If you need help with port forwarding, this site has a wealth of router specific information.

Once the above requirements have been met, submit a support request and provide us with the IP or dynamic dns hostname, and the port number, and we'll reconfigure your live publishing point.
